Hello, dear wondrous backers!
Since the development of our books typically takes 6-12 months from start to finish, we do multiple products in parallel. Pre-production work for the 3d Remarkable book is about to start soon, but we haven't decided on the topic YET.
Two years ago I already did a survey to poll your ideas for the topic for Remarkable #3, and you provided some excellent insights. We are now at a point where we need to actually decide what the next book will be about, so we're asking you again to cast your votes on this small survey. You can also pitch your own ideas!
The challenge for us is to choose a topic that appeals to a wide range of game masters, and that ideally can also "fit" the Remarkable format as it has been established. So for example it would be great if it can follow the Disposition, Wealth, Security concepts, and so on. For example so far, the Remarkable books seem to:
Be about a building or "place/location"
It is "commercial" eg. being able to buy things at the place
It has characters at that place
The topic is wide enough so we can provide 8 "sample" ready-made places (such as Inns, Shops)
While we can certainly take a little bit of liberty with this format of Inns and Shops and flex the concept a bit, but when is it too much? How much of the format makes it a Remarkable book in your opinion? And which parts could we leave out in favor of covering new grounds?
Dungeons
This is one of our favorite topics, and we can certainly imagine a whole book with 8 unique "dungeon" locations that are super varied. But, it would not really fit in terms of Wealth, Prices etc. so we would deviate a bit from the format. The rest of the book would then delve into how you can make your own dungeons and bring them to life.
Villains
Another favorite topic of ours, where we flesh out 8 amazing unique bad guys, in the same way as we fleshed out 8 different taverns and shops. The rest of the book would then delve into how you can make your own villains and bring them to life. Being about "persons" rather than a place, this topic would deviate a lot from our Security, Wealth, Prices, format.
Factions
Similar to Villains above, this would bring you 8 very interesting Factions/Cults/Groups to place into your world, similar to groups such as the Harpers, Zentharim etc. The rest of the book would then delve into how you can make your own Factions and bring them to life. Being about "persons" rather than a place, this topic would deviate a lot from our Security, Wealth, Prices, format.
*Note that Factions and Villains could potentially be one and the same book.
Kingdoms
This topic would provide you with 8 fleshed out "Kingdoms" or locations/cultures of sorts, and it would follow the existing format quite nicely. The rest of the book would then delve into how you can make your own Kingdoms, cultures and bring them to life. Our big reservation is that this is very similar to Spectacular Settlements from Nord Games and we don't want to come across as imitators.

A Unique New Product Type
I don't believe I've seen ringbound, tabbed books been done before that much. Through many customer surveys, I've learned that GM's love using our books during game preparation (away from the game table) in advance of sessions. Big books are bulky to carry around and laid out flat behind your DM screen, though. That's why a pocket guide made so much sense to me, and it is clear from the response we are getting on it, that you agree. If that's the case please comment below!

A flash and a bang
Interestingly enough, the Pocket Guide idea did not exist until two weeks for this Kickstarter launch. I was visiting my book manufacturer New Energy in Europe to finalize some production details for this title. While at their office we were looking at various other books, samples, and binding methods (as graphic designers/print aficionados love to drool over that kinda thing). I picked up what was more of a pocket "agenda" thing in a padded hardcover binding, with tabbed content. Then it struck me. A flash and a bang and I saw a miniaturized companion of the Wondrous Expedition book in my mind. It made so much sense that I didn't think twice and factored it into the campaign.
Btw: Please note that in the artist mockup the cover looks pretty "thin". This will not be the case with the actual real product. We are going for a thick, 3mm "padded" hardcover binding, giving it a very sturdy feel. We didn't have a good photoshop image of that at hand.
Cost Killed the Dream
The challenge then was to figure out the production cost of this thing. As it turned out, a pocket guide like this was very specialized and requires much more handling by the factory to put together. This makes it very costly when compared to a standard book. The initial price quotes we got kinda killed the idea right there, but we persisted and together with my agent at the manufacturer we figured out to way to do it at a price that was still ok when marked up to retail.

If you like to pick 'n choose reward items
All individual items will be available as add-ons in Backerkit after this campaign ends, so if you prefer to "mix and match" your pledge choices, you can certainly do so later. We did not want to confuse anyone with too many new reward choices. This gives the most streamlined offering and the most popular choices.

What can I say? Your pledges keep on flowing in, and on the back of that, we have already reached 40K euro in funding in just 3 days. It's an incredible result that makes me feel incredibly humbled!
Shine A Light On Others
We don't have a stretch goal at 40K for this Kickstarter (one is around the corner if we reach 45K euro), so I figured to use this moment to put the spotlight on others. I know it's not customary to use posts for this, but I know when I started Loresmyth, it was bigger companies that helped me out and gave me that leg up to get me where I am now. Crit Academy's Memorable Monsters
Our friends at the Crit Academy (a cool podcast) have launched their very first Kickstarter and would love for you to check it out. I certainly remember doing my first crowdfunding campaign, and it was so nerve-wracking, I can definitely relate. They are making a very cool take on a bestiary, that you may like!
Joshua (JVC) Parry is one of the most talented upcoming writers in the tabletop RPG scene, and I've gladly worked with him on many projects, including Remarkable Shops & Their Wares. Josh is very prolific as an independent author as well, mainly on the DMsGuild and his adventures and other supplements are highly regarded.
Josh has recently released Dragon Relics, a campaign for characters from 1st to 12th level and I would love for you to check it out. I am not a fan of the DMsGuild because they claim exclusivity over someone's work, which is something I fundamentally disagree with as a business owner (exclusivity is always too expensive to really be recouped) but I don't want to keep my personal views prevent a talented writer get some well-deserved exposure! So have a look if you are in need of a beefy campaign for your players!

10 Extra Terrain Features and Landmarks
On top of the 20 terrain features and landmarks already planned for the book, 10 more will be added for this stretch goal! The terrain features and landmarks are vividly detailed environmental elements that help you create variety during a journey and hold the interest of your players longer.
Many of these terrain features come with optional gameplay ideas that offer new, exciting ways to challenge your players (instead of throwing another bandit attack on them!). Make the environment an integral and thrilling part of your adventure, just as much as a dungeon would!
While the development of the book has just started, here’s a little glimpse of some of the terrain materials presented in the book.Thisis stilla rough mock-up, so none of the content is final!

Hello, dear wondrous backers! Wonderful news!
Thanks to your generous pledges, we have unlocked our third stretch goal, and this one has been a burning wish from all of us involved! Just WOW!
Large Print Run
Thanks to reaching €35K in funding, we are now able to finance a large print run of the physical books, which means we will not use DriveThruRPG’s print-on-demand system to fulfill rewards.
What’s the difference? First and foremost, a large print run at our trusted manufacturer in Europe has a far, far superior quality than print-on-demand. The difference is huge. From paper stock, color richness, bind quality to quality control, our manufacturer in Poland continues to blow our minds. It’s just that good. Those who have the new Remarkable Shops hardcover or softcover will know what I’m talking about.
Secondly, while a large print run requires a huge investment up front, the cost per book is lower, which gives us a healthier margin. While this does not mean anything to you as a customer in the short run, it does mean we can run a profitable operation as a company and continue to bring you great products in the future.
What’s Next?
Our next goal is to unlock full-color artwork spreads to grace the start of each major chapter in the book. We did this with Remarkable Inns and Remarkable Shops, and it really elevates the look and feel of the book. Super exciting--it would be so cool to reach this goal!
